How a Touch Screen Tape-bonded on a Display Panel?

Tape-bonding is also known as air-gap bonding, as a touch screen is bonded on a display panel with double-sided adhesive tape around the border of both panels and there is an air gap between the touch screen and the display panel. How is the touch bonded on the display panel?

First, laminating double-sided adhesive tape around the bezel of the display panel. We provide thickness 0.3mm and 1.0mm for option. 0.3mm is recommended for those display with sheet metal frame and 1.0mm is usually for those diplays without sheet metal frame. Sheet metal frame makes display panel structure stronger, no need 1.0mm thick adhesive tape to do the air-gap bonding, as the sheet metal frame is about 0.5mm~1mm height from the frame top to the display surface. For those display panels without sheet metal frame, comparatively, they are more supple, and 1.0mm adhesive is able to make sure the touch and display do not contact each other. 

Second, put the display panel in the bonding fixture, take off the display's protective film and the touch's protective film, and then put the touch screen onto the display panel in the fixture as soon as confirming they are clean and no dust between them. Press the border gently to adhere to each other firmly. The fixture is to center align the acitive areas of the touch and display panel. 

As we can see, tape bonding is an easy way to assemble the touch to the display panel. It is fast and cost effective and also simplify the whole device assemblage. There is an obvious disadvantage due to the air-gap between the PCAP touch screen and display panel. When it is under some temperature differences, it will be foggy or some water drops will appear in the air gap. Besides, the air gap produces more light reflection and refraction and slightly decrease the viewing quality.
